10 Minute Organizing

This weekend was busy. We had grad parties, horse stuff, lacrosse, a T-shirt making party, yard work, housework—all the things. I was nonstop from the moment I left a client’s house on Friday evening until about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Our next event didn’t start until 4 p.m., and since it was just down the street, I actually had 30 whole minutes to myself.

Now, I knew that if I sat down and looked at my phone, I’d get sucked into mindless scrolling—and I’ve been working hard to stop doing that (but that’s a newsletter for another day). Thirty minutes wasn’t long enough to dive into a big project, but it was just enough time to knock out a few small things. So I:

  • Put away the dry dishes

  • Started the dishwasher

  • Returned random items on the counter to their proper rooms

  • Sorted the mail

  • Brushed the dog

And just like that, my kitchen felt lighter. I felt lighter. So I figured—this is this week’s newsletter topic.

Here are 10 organizing projects you can do in 10 minutes or less:

  1. Clean out your purse

  2. Tidy the center console in your car—trash out, randoms back in place

  3. Toss expired food from the fridge

  4. Match up Tupperware lids and containers (ditch the orphans)

  5. Refold a messy drawer (PJs, workout clothes, etc.)

  6. Go through your underwear drawer—toss the ones you never wear

  7. Match shoes in your drop zone and put away anything out of place

  8. Gather pens from around the house—test them and toss the dead ones

  9. Pick a shelf in your pantry and organize it

  10. Grab a bag and fill it with donations

Just because you don’t have a lot of time doesn’t mean you can’t get something done. These little tasks add up—and they feel good. There’s a real sense of momentum and relief that comes with knocking out a quick win.

Which one will you try the next time you have 10 free minutes?
