From Messy Mom to Organizing Coach: My Journey to a Happier, More Organized Life
Before I had kids I was organized. I also thought I would be organized with kids since I was organized before kids. HA! I love how my kids have taught me so much about being humble. Life with kids isn’t always easy, fun, or organized. BUT I’ve devoted my life to figuring out how to make it easier, more fun, and more organized.
When my kids were super little, it was easy for things to get out of control. They had SO MUCH STUFF!! Why? Well, for starters, I bought my kids everything I ever loved and everything I ever wanted plus all the new things that looked so cool! Also, everyone else loved buying for my kids. I also wanted to ensure my kids had every opportunity to learn and grow. That means I had all the books, puzzles, every art supply and everything else that was suggested that “good parents” provided for their kids. We also had every membership to any kid activity place to make sure they were cultured, like the zoo, science museum, children’s museum, forestry center, and gymnastics places and I’m sure I’m missing some, so it wasn’t like we were always staying home.
I was struggling to keep up with the chores, and our schedule. I was constantly late and always exhausted. It was overwhelming! It wasn’t fun, it wasn’t easy and it sure as hell wasn’t organized.
I got to a point where I couldn’t handle all the stuff! I wanted control of my house back. I wanted a place where I could sit at the end of the day, and there wouldn’t be toys everywhere. This was when I started to get serious about organizing our space.
The first thing I tried was to get rid of all the toys that I thought my kids weren’t playing with anymore. And while I’m lucky they didn’t notice and get upset, it didn’t feel good to do it that way. My son was old enough to talk, so I started asking him which toys he thought we could donate to other kids. He really liked that idea and would help gather them up. He was also helpful in saying what his sister liked and didn’t like. She seemed to agree with him, so I went with it.
We went through all of it, and when we were done, our home felt so much cleaner, lighter, and happier. It was such a great feeling for all of us. With the house being cleaner and organized, everything else started to improve as well. I wasn’t struggling to keep up with the chores as they didn’t take as long. I wasn’t running late anymore. I had more time and more fun with my kids.
As I was able to figure it out for myself, I started helping other moms get control over their stuff and their life through decluttering and organizing. It’s been so rewarding to see the amazing and positive changes in my clients’ lives.
Being organized isn’t just about having a tidy home. It’s about creating space in your life for the things that matter most to you. By organizing your space, you will also organize your time and your thoughts to be able to live a happier, healthier, and more peaceful life.
If you’re overwhelmed by all the stuff in your space and don’t know where to start, I encourage you to take the first step. Its never too late to make a change and create a more organized life.
